Heelers to the Rescue

By Dick Koster

Photograph of a liver and tan Lancashire Heeler bossing a small bunch of cattle. The livestock is running away and the Heeler is pushing them from behind.

Years ago I was walking my Heelers on a dead end road. There we came across a loose cow. But on the way back the cow had wandered towards the local road and I decided to try to get the cow into the pasture.

But the moment I opened the gate, other cows made moves to get out. I then decided to get one of my Heelers. She ran to the back of the cow and started herding. Within 20 seconds the cow was in the pasture.
