Expanding on our mission
Welcome
Our members want an association that supports their interests and accomplishments. We seek camaraderie, good sportsmanship, and mutual support. We celebrate one another’s love for our dogs. Our publications support this mission. We also encourage mutual support at our events, as well as through the opportunities we provide for participation in the management and operation of the association.
We can do these things through our events and publications and through participation in the management of the association.
Conserve
We are acutely aware that Lancashire Heelers are presently a rare and vulnerable breed. Much of our attention must be given to their conservation. Lancashire Heelers are a very old breed, created to serve as herding farm dogs. Through sensible conformation standards and the preservation of genetic diversity, it is our mission to preserve the ability of this breed to serve in its original roles.

Protect
We wish to protect existing dogs by encouraging responsible ownership. We do this through education targeting owners to help them buy responsibly. Before they acquire their first Lancashire Heeler, they should know what they are getting.
We will also support the re-homing of dogs when this is needed. We will work to avoid euthanasia of all healthy Lancashire Heelers.
Enjoy
The reason why we have Lancashire Heelers is that we enjoy their company. Lancashire Heelers are a remarkably versatile breed, and they naturally lead us into many activities. It is a purpose of the association to promote participation in dog sports through sponsorship of activities appropriate to our breed. Our publications will support this goal by featuring the accomplishments of our dogs.

Breeding
We wish to support breeders with the information and guidance they need to produce puppies that are healthy, have good temperament, and have good conformation. As a part of this, we will promote good standards for the breed and good training for judges, and to demonstrate the standards we promote, we will sponsor events related to conformation. Presently, there are so few Lancashire Heelers worldwide we have the opportunity, through good practices and vigilance, to largely eliminate the major genetic disorders that affect the breed. We will promote this goal primarily through the work of our education and health committees, as well as through a thoughtful code of ethics.
